Something Beautiful optimizes its supply chain with RFID: +99% inventory accuracy and 80% less inventory time
Fashion brand Something Beautiful has transformed its stock management thanks to the implementation of an end-to-end RFID solution developed by Dipole. With more than 30 stores across Spain and a supply chain involving manufacturers in Asia and the Iberian Peninsula, the project has enabled the company to achieve levels of operational accuracy and efficiency that were previously unattainable with manual processes.
The challenge: controlling stock across a fashion retail network
Managing inventory for a growing fashion brand is no simple task. Something Beautiful operated a network of more than 30 retail stores in Spain, suppliers across multiple countries and a central distribution hub coordinating the entire operation.
The lack of real-time inventory visibility, receiving and shipping errors, and the time spent on manual stock counts were the main pain points the company needed to solve. The objective was clear: implement an RFID solution covering the entire supply chain — from manufacturer to store — while integrating seamlessly with existing management systems.
The RFID solution: traceability from factory to store
The key to the project lies in the fact that RFID identification begins at product origin. Dipole supplies RFID web labels in roll format, organized by item, and manages their printing and encoding. The labels are sent directly to Something Beautiful’s manufacturers — both in Asian markets and across the Iberian Peninsula — to be applied to the hangtags of each garment before shipment to the distribution center.
This means that every garment enters the supply chain with its RFID identity assigned directly at the factory, ensuring complete traceability from the very first stage
.
RFID control at the distribution center with the Cubic system
Once products arrive at Something Beautiful’s central warehouse, Dipole’s Cubic reading system manages the three critical logistics processes:
• Goods receiving — automatic verification of all products received from manufacturers without manual counting
• Shipping — validation that every store shipment is correct before dispatch, eliminating picking errors
• Inventory — fast, accurate inventory counts without disrupting operations
RFID inventory management in stores with PDA readers
From the central warehouse, products are distributed throughout the store network. At each retail location, staff use PDA readers that allow them to independently manage three essential functions: receiving products sent from the warehouse, performing store inventory counts and instantly locating any item on the sales floor.

RFID integration with Something Beautiful’s management systems
In RFID projects of this scale, integration with the customer’s management systems is usually the most critical point. Poor initial planning can lead to delays, unexpected development work and solutions that fail to fit real operational workflows.
In Something Beautiful’s case, a clear and detailed definition of requirements from the beginning of the project enabled the integration to be completed without issues, while also extending the solution to more applications than originally planned. The result was a system that communicates seamlessly with Something Beautiful’s existing management platform — in this case, the PowerSoft Operating System — without duplication or operational friction.
The customer’s perspective
“Implementing RFID with Dipole has been a major improvement in our inventory management. From the beginning, the project definition was very solid, allowing us to integrate the solution with our systems without major issues. Today we have much better stock visibility across our entire store network and, above all, we have drastically reduced the time dedicated to inventory counts. It is an investment that allows us to grow with control, reduce operational times throughout the supply chain and consequently lower associated costs.” Ramiro Vega, General Manager of Something Beautiful

Results of implementing RFID in fashion retail
The RFID implementation at Something Beautiful delivered tangible and measurable improvements:
• +99% inventory accuracy — virtually zero stock data errors
• 80% reduction in inventory time — processes that previously took hours are now completed in minutes
• Real-time inventory visibility — permanent stock visibility at the distribution center and across the entire store network
• Fewer stock shortages — improved replenishment and greater product availability at the point of sale
Conclusion: RFID as a growth driver for fashion retail
The Something Beautiful case demonstrates that a well-planned RFID implementation can transform inventory management in the fashion retail sector. The key lies in designing the solution end-to-end — from the RFID label applied at the factory to the reader used in-store — supported by a robust integration that allows everything to function as a single, coherent system.
